Hi, I’m Maurizio, a visual artist and photographer originally from Italy, now based in South Australia.
I’ve spent many years working in the world of images — from art direction to photography and film. But what has always captivated me is the human face. There’s something quiet and influential in how a portrait can speak without uttering a word.
This project began in Europe, where I started photographing people close to me — friends, strangers, and passers-by.
Thanks to the support of the Riddoch Arts & Cultural Centre, I’m now continuing the series here in Mount Gambier as part of an exhibition that will run alongside the Australian Portrait Awards in 2026.
I’m not looking for perfect poses or glamorous faces. I’m interested in presence — the subtle feeling that comes through when someone exists, without performing.
